In my opinion, from it’s main function as a web browser, Google Chrome is quite reasonable to be compared with other top browsers like IE and Firefox. After I tried this browser, I found some fact about the plus and minus from this browser, according to my experience personally. The following is the plus and minus in my opinion:

Google Chrome Browser’s plus:
1. Opening the browser application on Windows is taking no time, almost same or even faster than opening Windows Explorer, only need about 1-2 seconds. Of course this depends from your computer specs too.
3. No need to install Flash or Java (already included on the installation).
4. Automatic bookmark for all sites we visited; history, most visited, recently closed tab, etc.
5. Using smaller memory if compared with another browsers. Google Chrome used memory less than 20MB, and average per tab is 4-20 MB.
6. The better anti-crash system with per-tab memory allocation, so that if there is a tab in browser crashed, Chrome will only close that tab, not the entire browser like other browser does.
7. Better anti-phishing system promised by Google, or at least same quality as other browser.
8. The address bar, place to type web address can be used to search anything. Just type keyword on address bar and hit enter (integrated with Google search engine).

Google Chrome minus:
1. None (yet) supporting add-ons like Mozilla Firefox.
2. Less secure than Firefox, possible it still have backdoor just like in Safari, therefore Chrome is not a good choice to used in money-related transaction on Internet.
3. Because it still in Beta version, possible there are some bugs that not found yet, which possibly can make Windows system crash.
4. Only available for Windows XP and Vista version.
5. For every opened tabs, Chrome will usually allocating another memory, therefore when you run Windows Task Manager (ctrl + alt + del), you will see many used memory resources especially if you opened many tabs at once.
6. There is still bug on Chrome RSS Feed system, therefore the RSS Feed usage on Chrome is not optimal yet.

According to GetClicky analysts, Chrome actually have been able to enchant users in  it’s first week launch, with a reach 3 percent for the most sought browser.

And not long after that day, when I have more free time, I tried and researched about this new feature. It’s a webcam chat’s feature! On Yahoo! Messenger or Live Messenger, this feature has been provided long time ago. But on Gmail, this is new. This feature will let you to chat with other Gmail users, which is requiring you to have a webcam and a minimum of 512Mbps Internet connection, as long as a microphone and speaker on your PC, Firefox 2.0+, Safari 3.0, IE7 and Google Chrome. Supported on Windows and Mac OS X operation system, this new service is a result of cooperation between Sweden Google and US Google team.

This new Gmail feature using XMPP standard, RTP and H.264. With this new service, it can help and promoting global collaboration in business people. Another purpose is to provide an online easy-to-use face-to-face chat service for those who are not internet-savvy users. Users only need to click on Video & More menu, you can too record message, and then send it to another friends.

This feature is different with Skype. Because it planted directly to Gmail, the usage need a simple plugin to download. This plugin is about 2MB, using proprietary formats, not flash that commonly used by many other chat programs. After installing the plugin, you only need to click menu “Video & more” below the Gmail chat window and choose “Start video chat.” In no time, you will start to hear and see your friend via your Gmail. You can click icon “pop-out” to display the video in a popup or icon full screen .

The surplus is when two computers that communicating are connected, all traffic from Gmail Video and Voice will executed via Google server, not point-to-point design. Therefore, theoretically, the communication stability will be better and will not slowing down you PC heavily.

But still, this feature can’t replace some other video chat programs, for example, Skype. There is limitation on Gmail Video chat, it can not connected to the telephone line. Where Skype (pay version) can do that, therefore Skype still became the favorite chat program for business community.
