Google’s search engine now have a new competitor that claimed to provide the better search results. This search engine called Cuil, say, like you read the word ‘cool’.

Cuil developed by Anna Patterson, a former Google engineer who quit in 2006. Anna is the developer of a search technologies that Google bought in 2004 to improve their search quality. She is very confident that the latest technology she used on Cuil is better than she ever developed for Google.

This time, she will not sell it to Google and will be her own source of money. Cuil managed together with her husband, Tom Costello, and two other former Google engineer, Russell Power and Louis Monier. Start-up company that they developed is supported by capital injection of 33 million U.S. dollars.

For the first stage Cuil has been registering 120 billions of web pages. They claimed the number is three times higher than the Google’s index pages although not yet be ascertained. In addition, the technology used by Cuil requires fewer computers to process the same data with Google.

Those claims seem has made Google a little bit angry, that in the Google’s official blog states that Google machine has detected one trillion URL addresses. However, it doesn’t mean that all URL noted by Google because many address that points to one source. During this Google is closed about the exactly total of pages indexed that they list since they penetrate 8,2 billion URL address about 3 years ago.

The Cuil’s search results displayed more interesting with the format of magazine, followed by photos and related links, and not only lines of text like Google results. Data ranking methods of search results is different with Google because Cuil will choose based on the actual content. In addition, Cuil promises security privacy by not storing the data users.

From the site screen is almost the same with Google, Cuil also prioritizing to access speed and a view that is quite simple in the front page. However, that is different here, Cuil use black background colors.

The difference is, on Cuil (as far as I know), special image search and advanced search is not available yet. However, in the search results page, Cuil directly showing the website thumbnail image, displayed in a shaped column just like in a magazine.

I had the opportunity to test some of my personal website in Cuil, the good news is my websites have been indexed, whereas I never feel have submit my URL there.

What clearly is Cuil.com is a new search engine alternative for Internet users. Although many things has promised, Cuil likely have to prove whether they can get more visitors or not from Google. We wait! Try Cuil on www.cuil.com.
